Race Day two
Once again i come to you with another update
Race two
Race two had me starting from 12th out of 20th on the grid. It was dry in the morning, a little cold but managable. I got off to a great start staying right behind the top 10 cars and managing to take the inside line infront of Deb Hill who started beside me. This was brilliant, rounding first i was right in behind the leaders with about two car lengths between me and the guys behind.
I managed to stay up the best I could with the front guys, they did manage to get a bit of a gap on me and i had two pass me a couple laps in who I managed to stay with pretty much until the end of the race. Greg McDonald was trying too hard to go down the inside of me going into first on about the 4th lap and ended up on the grass, sliding around infront of me going through the corner. I ducked inside and took my position back from him. He was not a happy chap after that and hunted me down for the rest of the race.
I ended up finishing 10th out of 20 cars for that race, a couple of front runners having issues with their cars and dropping out of the race.
Another big win for me over the rest of the weekend was my improvement in lap times by nearly half a second from 1:25.999 to 1:25.552 in that race. Im very happy with that result and has put me halfway up the grid for the last race.
Race 3 - Wet and wild!
As the title says, it was pretty wet and wild. I started the race with a weird shudder under brakes. I noticed this during warm up. I was told the front tyres had been swapped over and they guys didnt check my tyre pressures properly as we ran out of time so it was going to be really interesting. Found out after the race the tyres had a flat spot that greg had put on the tires early which was not cool but i dealt with it ok.
Start was shocking, i didnt want to go crazy as ive never raced in the wet before so ended up pretty much at the back. Followed around for a bit and managed to pass a few with Ian taking late braking in the wet to the extreme going into first and sliding infront of me. I did my classic duck and run and took his place. There was some nasty incidents in this race with about 5-6 people ended up dropping back after a few scraps. Of course i took advantage of those and worked my way up the grid.
Despite the shudder and the wetness i finished a healthy 13th place out of 20 cars again. Not too bad at all. I wont even mention lap times, they were all about 8-10 seconds slower for everyone in that race. We had a mix up with the Saftey car where they waved someone passed then everyone else followed. The SC decided to get off the track and racing pretty much resumed straight away. I had a easy drive following Graeme too the finish line.
All in all i feel i had a very good weekend. My first and already i’ve shown i can certainly learn quickly when it comes to driving a new car in a multitude of conditions. Both wet and dry. I may not have had the quickest lap times out there and there were several factors that did affect that, such as my experience but also the car was 20kg’s heaver than the limit. Also i had wets or intermediates on in dry conditions which if i had the correct tires could’ve really helped me out heaps. But hey for me at the end of the day is i had some fun. But now its time to get serious….
Ill be looking into possibility of purchase of a vehicle in the coming weeks. It has been suggested i could lease a vehicle for the next season which could be an idea. Ill keep you posted on my decisions.
